Rewell Altunaga

He studied Painting, Ceramics, and Photography at the Escuela Profesional de Artes Plásticas “Oscar Fernández Morera” in Trinidad. He has participated in various workshops and courses at the Instituto Superior de Arte and other academic institutions. He has also taught workshops and delivered lectures at art centers and educational institutions, including the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños. He is currently the National Specialist of Visual Arts at the Asociación Hermanos Saíz.

His artistic practice is shaped by social and artistic concepts, emphasizing how thought, behavior, and the perception of the world are altered by the development of technology, and how this, in turn, transforms the production and understanding of artistic processes. His body of work encompasses painting, photography, installation, environment, video art, and performance. It focuses on technological processes, primarily derived from video game culture, which he has explored in multiple ways: screenshot, machinima, modding, mapping, and the creation of independent video games. He has participated in more than thirty group exhibitions and has held eight solo shows.

Altunaga has curated fourteen exhibitions, including Un mundo feliz, presented during the Tenth Havana Biennial; El extremo de la bala, una década de Arte Cubano; and Términos medios, recipient of the 2009 Curatorial Grant from the Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales.
