2007 / Intervention – Game Art

Intervention in a Cuban nightclub or discotheque. A console is installed with a striptease video game in which a female character pleases the spectator through the use of control keys.

The image is projected on one of the club’s walls, visible to all attendees.

The absence of strip clubs in Cuba provokes estrangement among the audience.

The player’s interaction transcends a mere game, generating an illusion of apparent reality that, blended with the atmosphere, produces a setting resembling what Cubans only know through films and television.

Dream Strippers thus becomes an element that unsettles the context: spectators are at once entertained and disconcerted by the unusual nature of the piece.

The digital stripper carries out the audience’s wishes through commands, like a real performer obeying a client; in this case, however, money is replaced by the control key.
